After a lovely week in Portugal this weekend is back to wet and windy, however its looking good for next week for the Easter holidays. Portuguese schools have now finished for 2 weeks. If you are around treh Obidos area there are many events and parades next week to celebrate Easter.

EU leaders have agreed a proposal at the Migrant Summit this week for Turkey to take back all the migrants that are arriving in Greece in exchange for financial incentives. It was accepted by the Turkish governemnt but many organisationa, like Amnesty, are worried about its legalist and its effect. BBC News
Brazil is in crisis today as protests grow over the corruption issues surrounding the current President Dilma Rousseff and her predecessor Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. On Wednesday night a Judge released a recording of a phone call which suggested that Dilma and Lula are trying to obstruct the course of an investigation into corruption. BBC News
Fuel up again this week. Truck companies are asking for the resignation of the Economy MInister after a statement he made that Portuguese should be more patriotic and fill up in Portugal not Spain. Fuel in Spain is now up to 35c a litre cheaper than Portugal so people close to the border are making the obvious choice. UK Referendum on staying in the EU is getting closer and the debates getting hotter, but the Brexit campaigners are gaining ground as they are campaigning harder and louder. The Telegraph has the latest poll results and the IN campaign is just ahead with 49% compared yo OUT with 47%. If you have not yet registered to vote then you need to do it now, this is the most important vote for the UK in the past 50 years.
In the last couple of days, the EUR/GBP has fluctuated by almost 2 cents. Yesterday saw the release of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which produced higher than expected positive figures.The Greek economy is in a vulnerable situation and the former finance minister Gikas Hardouvelis has suggested it could be more dangerous than it was last summer. Greece has been allowed to miss bailout payments whilst the migrant debate and solution are discussed in Brussels. Moreover whilst the Eurozone unemployment is at a lowest point in years Greece has a 25% unemployment rate. Businesses have started relocating due to over-taxation and tourism bookings are down in the islands because of the refugee arrivals.Much has been said about the potential economic disaster for the pound, HSBC believe there could be parity whilst manufactures such as BMW and Rolls Royce have suggested it would be unsustainable to remain in the UK without EU trade agreements. However Lloyds bank have suggested much of the Brexit cost may be footed by the euro and the Norwegian Sovereign Fund, which is the world biggest at £584bn does not think a Brexit would present a significant risk to their investments. Spring has sprung (a leak) ! The next week is going to be a week of showers for the whole country. The least likely day to get wet will be Wednesday. Temperatures will be in the mid-teens but night time temperatures will stay well above freezing due to the cloud cover. Met Office weather alerts and reports are posted on our facebook page.
Easter holidays start in the UK and Portugal this weekend and for some in the Uk, the holiday period could be 3 weeks so watch out for higher flight costs between here and the UK. Spring officially starts on Sunday and the clocks go forward a week later on the 27th March. This week is Holy week and many festivities take place across the country - place of note are Obidos and Braga. This weekend in Caldas da Rainha is the World All Styles Martial Arts Competition with children as young as 5 taking part.On Sunday is Portuguese Fathers Day. Lisbon half marathon is on Sunday. Looking forward over the next two weeks, there is the Silver Coast Walking Group, International Ladies, English Language Pub Quiz and Obidos Chocolate Festival.
