Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel points to 'growth and jobs' as Portugal's Budget is approved by the EU. Algarve Daily News
The Euro is the biggest beneficiary of the Bank of England vote. The Euro was able to gain significant ground on the Pound yesterday with rates entering into the 1.20’s for the second time in as many weeks. GBP/EUR rate finished just above 1.30 on Thursday night. The President of the European Central Bank Mario Draghi, Mark Carney’s EU counterpart deliver a speech in Frankfurt urging central banks to consider interest rate hikes and not only look at the short term factors of plunging oil prices before low interest rates undermine economies. This could be very significant for the Euro as the tone from Mario Draghi is trying to actively improve the EU economy going on to suggest further Quantitative Easing (injecting money in the economy) if required. Please contact
at Foreign Currency Direct for more information and to secure your rate.
Sunshine, showers and wind for most of the country this weekend. Guess what... for most of the country it will continue for much of the week with heaviest showers on Tuesday and Thursday. So if you are off to Carnaval, take a brolly or wear shorts and a t-shirt.If you haven't got your washing done, give up or get a tumble dryer; The Algarve and Alentejo should miss most of the rain so you could take your drying down South. Happy Holidays! Met Office weather alerts and reports are posted on our facebook page.
This week is Carnaval in case you hadn't noticed. The chance for men to dress as women, women to dress as women and men to dress as babies and loads of people to wear masks - if you go to your local large village or town, you will see processions, bands, fun and frivolity and pipoca and faturas. Bear in mind that in the major towns, roads will be blocked off and shops and banks may be closed especially on Tuesday which is a bank holiday. This weekend there should be car boot sales at Miranda do Corvo and Vila Facia and next Friday is the Silver Coast Friends Coffee Morning. Don't forget all Municipal Holidays are listed in Hey Portugal Calendar as well as more detailed information about these events and more things to do.
