Spain seems to having similar political problems that Portugal had last year. They still have no permanent government, the incumbent Conservative leader made an unexpected decision this week to turn down the Kings offer of creating a government. The Socialist and the anti-austerits party, Podemos are entering talks to try to form a government. It looks like the socialists will gain power, as happened in Portugal. EuroNews.
The Portuguese Budget has been announced. It still needs to be accepted by EU heads in Brussels. VAT in cafes and bars will be reduced from 1st July from 23 to 13%, this is expected to re-create some of the lost jobs in the catering industry. Algarve Daily News
Mario Draghi’s speech yesterday afternoon saw the Euro tumble and offered some respite for any clients looking to purchase the single currency. GBP/EUR had hit a fresh 1-year low on Wednesday, but Draghi’s hints towards further stimulus measures in March were enough to send the Euro plummeting and offer a spike for Euro buyers that may be worth acting on. Draghi gave no clear direction as to exactly what measures ECB had up their sleeve to try and boost their worryingly low inflation levels, but did say that there are ‘no limits to how far we are willing to deploy our policy instruments.’ IN the last 30 days there has been a 5.9% movement between the GBP and the EUR.Please contact

The weather is looking quite promising and Spring-like for the following week. Some rain in many areas on Tuesday, with a mix of cloud and sun for the rest of the week. Most days the temperature around central Portugal will stay around 16-20 degrees, a bit less in the North and a bit more in the South. It will cool below 10 on nights where we have nice clear blue skies. But remember it is January. Met Office weather alerts and reports are posted on our facebook page.
