The Euro has had a poor run this month despite a host of much stronger than expected economic data this week. I put this down to the markets pricing in the prospect of the Fed raising US interest rates next month as this will have encouraged investors and traders alike to take their money out of the Euro and buy in to safer and more profitable currencies such as the Pound & the US Dollar.Mario Draghi has also implied that further QE (Quantitative Easing) may have to be implemented in order to help the Eurozone maintain a healthy recovery. The other option is that the ECB cut the banks deposit rate making it more expensive for banks to hold large cash deposits which would encourage more lending to consumers and in turn would boost spending and therefore inflation levels.Rates this week for the GBP/EUR fluctuated between highs of 1.43 and lows of 1.41.
