Residency for EU Nationals

When moving to Portugal it is important to know your rights. Depending where your home nation is, the process of aeuro_flagpplying for residency or visa can be very different.

European Nationals have the right to move freely throughout Europe, however if you plan to stay in Portugal on a long term (more  than 3 months) or even permanent basis you will be expected to register your presence with your local council or SEF (Servico de Estrangeiros e Fronteires).

The rules are decided and goverened by the European Commission, and apply to Portugal and all other EU Countries.
