Picking Cherries in Castelo Branco

If you like to do something a little different why not try picking cherries in Castelo Branco.

This area of Central Portugal is well known for its' cherry crops. Hey Portugal has found this information on Cherry Picking Trips on the National Rail Website.

It takes place on Saturday's from May to July, but check with cp.pt for booking deatails and conditions.

Lying at the foot of the majestic Serra da Gardunha mountains, Fundão has ideal conditions for growing cherries and celebrates the fact every year with pomp and circumstance.

CP has created a programme to celebrate the tradition that will please everyone who like to have the best of both worlds; Useful, in that you can discover another region of the country, and pleasurable with the streets full of entertainment, taverns and handicrafts, in the Cherry festival.

Travel to Castelo Branco with the magnificent landscape of the Beira Baixa Line as company.

An unforgettable train journey that includes visits to historic landmarks, cherry orchards, the possibility to help in the picking, lunch in a regional restaurant and so much more.

A day to fully enjoy  this typical Portuguese celebration, and get to know a little bit more about the history and culture of the Beira-Baixa region.

It’s a full day out to a very Portuguese festival and a chance to learn a bit more about the history and culture of the Beira-Baixa region of the country.

Departure
Departure in the morning from Lisbon - Stª Apolónia station to Castelo Branco, through the magnificent landscape of the Beira Baixa Line.trainAfter arriving at Castelo Branco there is a transfer to Fundão, for a pleasant lunch in the restaurant “Hermínia”.

In the afternoon
Visit to the historic village of Castelo Novo, with tasting of the regional products. 
Visit to the Pomar das Cerejas, where the visitors can pick this delicious fruit.

Return
Departure from the Castelo Branco station with arrival at Lisbon around 22h00.

The price of the programme includes the train journey, bus transfers with a guide, lunch, visits and personal accident insurance.
