Óbidos Chocolate Festival takes place around March/April each year.

Have you ever been in a castle that smells of chocolate?

Each year 200,000+ people visit the Fair to look and taste the magnificent culinary creations.Festival of chocolate in obidos

There are many things to see and do at the Obidos Chocolate Festival.

The Portuguese Chocolatier of the Year Competition takes place here where the dishes are prepared in front of the Public and placed on display for the whole of the Festival.

There is the storefront display where a number of leading Pastry Companies decorate a small shop front with their best recipes and designs.

The Goldsmith’s Chocolate contest is all about producing jewelry made from 80% minimum chocolate and the rest from other edible material. Contestants have to submit a set of necklace, bracelet and ring for judging – not sure if it is the best looking or the best tasting jewelry that wins.

The biggest competition is the festival is the Sculptures section, true works of art in chocolate, made by food professionals that show off their tremendous skills in the area of sweets and chocolate. 2020 theme is "The Mad Twentys." dessertonslate2

There will also be a parads as at all Obidos Festivals, different every year.

Some of the best Portuguese chefs will do cooking demonstrations of chocolate dishes, at the venue, the Castle and in the evening they will be in the restaurants of Óbidos. You need to reserve if you want to eat.

There will also be demonstrations and workshops in cake design and chocolate for those who want to get their hands dirty (chocolaty)

The Chocolate House for Children will have lots of things for kids to get hands-on. There will be games, painting, face painting, and a workshop on the history of chocolate and, ultimately, with the help of a professional chef the opportunity to cook some chocolate recipes in a kitchen set up especially for this purpose.
